Daegu International Vocal Music Competition Operating Regulations
· The Daegu Metropolitan City Branch of the Music Association of Korea organizes the secretariat for the planning and operation of the Daegu International Vocal Music Competition, and constitutes a judging committee of prestigious musicians from domestic and abroad.
· If rules change due to circumstance, the committee reserves the right to make changes to the rules, including how it will be done.
1. Eligibility to participate
· The 42nd Daegu International Vocal Music Competition to be held in Republic of Korea is open to the following regardless of nationality.
· Male and female vocal music professionals born between 31 August 1988 to 30 August 2006.
2. Application period
· Preliminary round in Europe – From 6 May to 10 June 2024 17:00
· Preliminary round in Korea – From 8 July to 5 August 2024 17:00
3. Participation fee
· Participation fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.
European candidates
· The participation fee for the European preliminary round is 120 euros excluding bank fees.
· Participation fee can be paid on site for the European preliminary round.

Korean candidates
· The participation fee for the Korean preliminary round is KRW 150,000 excluding bank fees
· Participants in the Korean preliminary round can only pay via account transfer. (On-site cash payment is not possible.)

4. Application documents and attachments
· Participants must fill out an online application form and upload the required documents through the Daegu International Vocal Music Competition official website (daegumusic.com).

6. How to fill out the application form
· Participants must select the city they wish to participate in the preliminary round and specify the title and composer of the song to be performed in the preliminary and final contest in the application form.
· Submitted documents cannot be changed or returned after the registration deadline.
· The participant must specify the following on the application form.

· Preliminary round & Final round song cannot be duplicated, and the title of the song submitted in the application cannot be changed.
· Opera arias and oratorios submitted by the competitor must be composed in German, Italian, French, English, Russian or Spanish.
· Participants must memorize and perform.
7. Competition order
· The order of the preliminary and final rounds will be randomly drawn and announced on the official website.
· European candidate: On Wednesday, 12 June 2024 14:00
· Korean candidate: On Monday, 12 August 2024 14:00
8. Competition procedures
The 42nd Daegu International Vocal Music Competition will be held in preliminary round & final round.
✓ Preliminary round
· European preliminary round
: Friday, 14 June - Saturday, 15 June 2024 10:00
: Verdi Hall, National Conservatory of Verdi, Milan, Italy
· Korean preliminary round
: Friday, 16 August – Saturday, 17 August 2024 10:00
: Daegu Concert House Grand Hall, Daegu Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea
· The time is subject to change depending on the circumstance of the organizer.
· Each participant must indicate on the application form the city in which they wish to participate in the preliminary round.
· (Only those who have been eliminated from the European candidates can re-enter the Korean candidates.)
· The preliminary round will be held privately.
✓ Final Contest
· The finals of the contest will be held publicly with the Daegu International Opera Orchestra at the Daegu Concert House Grande Hall on Friday, 30 August 2024 17:00.
· If there is no orchestral score or part score for the final round performance, the final round performance can be changed after consultation with the jury chairperson.
✓ Airfare and Accommodation expenses
· The travel expenses and per diem incurred from participating in the contest shall be borne by the participant.
· However, 1,000,000 won (equivalent to about $800) of airfare is subsidized only for those who have passed the European qualifiers and participated in the finals, including Korean nationals, with tax deducted according to the Korean tax law.
· Accommodation provided to participants in the Korean Preliminary and Final competitions held in Korea. (contact the competition office)
9. Accompaniment
· A pianist will be provided to the participants for the European candidates.
· When using your own accompanist, be sure to write the personal information of the accompanist in the application.
· Korean candidates must bring their own accompanist.
10. Judging
· This contest is judged in accordance with the Daegu International Vocal Competition Judging and Operating Regulations.
11. Privilege
· Main/supporting cast at Daegu Opera House.
· Opera or Concert cast as Seoul Metropolitan Opera
12. Rights
The organizer has the following rights free of charge in relation to the competition.
· All portrait rights and copyrights related to this competition belong to the music association of Daegu city.
· Participants in this contest agree to accept all rules and judges' decisions upon registering for the contest.
(These operating regulations take precedence over the Korean regulations)

· There may be no winners depending on the judges’ result.
· Prize money will be awarded after deducting tax according to the Korean tax law.
· Prizes will be paid by wire transfer (KRW) to all winners.
· The 1° prize winner or The 2° prize winner must perform as a special performer at the 43rd Daegu International Vocal Music Competition to be held in 2025.
(The prize money includes airfare, accommodation, and performance fees for a special performance in 2025)
